A Bryan man arrested on an Austin parole warrant was also charged on Sunday, April 28, with felony prohibited substance in a correctional facility as he was being booked into the Burleson County Jail.

Stolen gun found at Clay gathering

Burleson County sheriff’s deputies recovered a stolen handgun after responding to a disturbance call at a large trail ride on Saturday night, April 27, in Clay. A 9 mm semiautomatic pistol was recovered from a juvenile at the scene, and sheriff’s deputies ran a check through dispatch and learned that it was stolen out of Navasota, said Burleson County Chief Deputy Bill Rios.

Man, woman charged in robbery case

A Caldwell man and a Caldwell woman were arrested on Monday, April 29, on felony robbery warrants in connection with an April case at a Caldwell grocery store. Joshua Charles Kearney, 36, and Martiqua Elaine Hurd-Dawson, 30, were charged and remain in Burleson County custody on $25,000 bond each, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.

Jail time possible if drivers don’t ‘Move Over or Slow Down’

Millions of Texans commute to work on highways every week, and pass inches away from the worksites for thousands of law enforcement personnel, first responders and road maintenance crews. Unfortunately, many of them are killed in crashes every year on the job, which is why TxDOT is calling on Texas drivers to keep roadside workers safe by remembering to “Move Over or Slow Down.” The state’s Move Over or Slow Down law requires drivers to move over -- putting a lane between them and roadside workers -- or reduce their speed to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when passing law enforcement, tow trucks, utility vehicles, emergency responders and TxDOT vehicles stopped with activated overhead lights on the side of the road.

Woman charged in evading, drug possession case

A Brenham woman was arrested by Somerville police on Thursday morning, April 25, on felony evading and drug possession charges after a traffic stop on State Highway 36 near the Washington County line.

New Tabor SPJST to hold church fundraiser

New Tabor SPJST is hosting a fundraiser to help with the rebuilding of New Tabor Brethren Church after the January fire which resulted in the loss of the sanctuary building. The event will be held on Saturday, May 18, at the Burleson County Expo Center and will feature dinner plates, a dance, live and silent auctions and a raffle.

Caldwell Council to hold workshop, special meeting

The Caldwell City Council was scheduled to meet in workshop session on Tuesday, April 30, to discuss budget goals, service level adjustments and capital improvement projects for 2025. City Administrator Camden White said service level adjustme nts concerned whether to add any staffing to improve service to citizens.
