A Military Service for Billy James Shiflet, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on May 3, 2024, at the Houston National Cemetery.

Billy was born on Nov. 21, 1951, in Houston, Texas, to James Calvin Shiflet and Mary Lou White.

Billy grew up in Houston and relocated to Caldwell, Texas after retiring.

Billy was a member of ROTC program in high school before joining the Army.

He served in the Persian Gulf from 1984-2000. Billy reached the rank of Sergeant 1st Class.

During his service he was awarded with the Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding achievement and service to the United States.

After retiring from the military, he worked as an independent contractor for Halliburton.

Billy loved studying American history.

He had hobbies like trail riding with friends and collecting unique artifacts and rocks from his extensive travels overseas.

He loved and cherished his animals.

Billy was a true American and a wonderful, caring human being that was loved by his family and friends.

He died on March 21, 2024.

Billy is survived by one brother; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
