POSGCD Board considers $1.7 million in grant awards

The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District Board was to consider approval of $1.7 million in grant funding for eight area water suppliers at its Tuesday, May 14, meeting. The projects included: * City of Caldwell (Project 1) -- $405,000 to lower pumps to maintain operability in wells.

Nine sentenced May 6 in 21st District Court

The following persons were sentenced in 21st Judicial District Court on Monday, May 6, with District Judge Carson Campbell presiding. * Brandon Lee Balcar, 43, of Caldwell; possession of controlled substance PG 1 >=1G<4G -- second degree felony; Defendant entered a plea of guilty and was sentenced to 20 years in the Texas Department Criminal Justice Institutional Division.

Area man injured in shooting in Clay

A man suffered a graze bullet wound to his left ear on Saturday night, May 11, in a shooting incident on Palmer Street in Clay, and the shooter fled the scene. The 51-year-old Bryan man was taken by private vehicle to CHI St.

New Tabor SPJST is holding a fundraiser for New Tabor Brethren Church on Saturday, May 18, at the Burleson County Expo Center. There will be a dance, live and silent auctions, a raffle and dine-in or take-out hamburger plates. Somerville ISD to give 3% raises in 2024-2025

When Somerville ISD teachers, administration and staff return in the fall, they will see a 3% raise in their paychecks. Last Wednesday, May 8, the school board approved the raises as part of the district’s compensation plan for employees.
